The Homeschool Roots Coaching Series

Whether you are a seasoned homeschooler or still considering the idea of educating your children at home, this series of 6 x 1-hr. coaching sessions supports you in creating the optimal conditions for children to learn from you.

Emotional rest is the chief factor required for growth and learning, yet many struggle to activate their children’s attachment instincts in order to render them ready to be taught. The series focuses on teaching you how to create the quality of attachment Nature requires for your children to follow your lead and the relational conditions required for learning and overall healthy child development to unfold. It also involves a resetting of your, individualized homeschool schedule and curriculum of choice by establishing necessary and fruitful “attachment anchors” throughout your daily and weekly routines.

This coaching series is suitable for home educators, unschoolers and microschool educators using any curriculum, who wish to improve children’s engagement and focus, as well as to reduce challenging behaviours in alternative education settings.

Attachment-based Parent Consulting

By combining attachment-based developmental instruction with pure coaching methodology, these parent consults provide you the opportunity to learn about the fundamentals of Dr. Neufeld's attachment-based developmental approach within a strength-based, goal-focused framework. Attachment-informed parent consulting provides information, coaching and strategies organized around the most pressing needs of your family, so you can bring things back into balance on multiple levels.

During the consulting sessions, you gain a deeper understanding of child development, what drives certain reactions in your child and what your children’s outward behaviours might be trying to tell you. The sessions involve learning concrete tools, tailored to your particular child, that you can begin using right away to transform. Many parents have shared that they notice a shift in their children’s behaviours almost immediately after implementing key relational strategies from these consults.

During your time together, Gail also provides coaching, encouragement and solution-focused support, identifying already-healthy factors in your family life and how to create more emotional ease for both you and your child.

Professional Life Coaching

What are your most heart-felt goals …your parenting goals … your classroom goals?

Professional coaching is different from counselling or psychotherapy in several key ways. Grounded in a strength-based, rather than a pathology-based model of helping others, professional coaching has gradually emerged and become refined over several decades.

Out of a convergence of several streams of personal development work, including business consulting, humanistic psychology, and advances in healthy communication models, coaching provides clients with the opportunity to experience transformative change, while also leaving them in freedom.

If you are ready to make a shift, Coach Gail Nielsen is here to walk alongside you as you name, take courage to move forward and then reach your goals. Gail received her coaching certification in 2006 and has extensive experience in both the counselling and coaching fields.

Her warm and supportive presence, combined with her solid knowledge of dynamic, effective coaching methods, as well as advanced studies in the areas of spirituality, inner development, attachment and trauma-informed care, create the ideal private and nonjudgmental space for you to challenge yourself forward to new, richer and more meaningful experiences.

What might be waiting for you? What are you waiting for?

Bedtime Beatitudes

As a more organic alternative to “sleep training,” with applications for children of any age, the Bedtime Beatitudes coaching series views entering the world of sleep through the lens of attachment. Clients enroll for 4 private sessions and learn fundamentals of an attachment-based approach to entering sleep. These sleep-supportive strategies are salves for children’s grasping for late-day connection, resistance to sleep and disturbances during the night.

You will learn how to build a "bridge over the separations of night" unique to you and and, when suitable, discuss how to hold the attachment needs of multiple children during late-day hours. The sessions also support you in scripting your connection with your child into the realm of sleep,in accordance with your family's spiritual beliefs.

In addition to cultivating new bedtime routines that bring you closer, these relational-developmental strategies can also have transformative effects on the transition to sleeping in separate beds, managing nightmares, earlier bedroom exits for the tired parent, as well as contributing to more joyful mornings.

Consulting for Waldorf Teachers

In recent years, awareness of the relevance of Dr. Neufeld’s work to the Waldorf movement has been expanding. A number of Waldorf schools in North America have sponsored presentations by Dr. Gordon Neufeld and others have referred to his work in newsletters, articles and posts.

Intentionally taking up study of Neufeld’s work and the importance of the earthly relational realm in child development benefits Waldorf teachers in part because relational and attachment conditions that were present within Steiner’s time can no longer be presumed to be part of the social fabric of today’s world, including in Waldorf communities.

Our consulting services provide Waldorf educators with an understanding of relational-developmental principles resulting in a range of benefits, including easing social and discipline issues in the classroom, engaging in more effective communication with parents and colleagues, making sense of exit interview feedback by viewing it through an attachment-based lens, allowing schools to keep up with a new wave of parents who are becoming educated in the relational-developmental approach as well as ensuring that children in all Waldorf classrooms are rendered receptive to learning so that the Pedagogy can work on them as intended.

Services for individuals involve confidential personal coaching and education and can be requested on a private basis.

What might become possible for the Waldorf movement in the 21st century through an augmented understanding of the role of relational attachment in human development?

Facilitated Book Studies

Are you in a school community or part of a group who loves learning together? Would you like to gather a group to study attachment-based child development, while sharing and hearing personal experiences and growing in the art of parenting and homeschooling as you learn?

Online book clubs are an enjoyable and economical way to learn the fundamentals of the Neufeld approach in a group setting.

Hold Onto Your Kids is Dr. Neufeld’s seminal and best-selling book, co-authored with Dr. Gabor Maté. It was first published in 2006 and editions since 2013 include additional chapters on raising children in a digital age. Dr. Deborah MacNamara’s Rest, Play, Grow is an accessible and essential read for any parent, teacher or caregiver. It delves deeply into the Neufeld approach with special focus on the young child. These are two of the options available for study tailored to your group.

Book clubs and facilitated book studies can be scheduled weekly or monthly. Fees are dependent upon format and group size. Schedule a free consult and we will be in touch with you to discuss what you’d like to read and what would serve your group best.
